Uppingham are through to the final of the Burrough League Plate competition after a convincing victory over Sproxton in the semi-final. Winning the toss & electing to take advantage of the early evening sunshine, Uppinghams opening pair of Mark Cox (72) & Martin Bennett(63no) got the Town off to a great start when scoring 121 for the first wicket. 'Pinch-hitter' Jamie Binley was next to the crease with instructions to 'entertain'. Despite being dropped twice he duly obliged with a quick-fire 40no to help Uppingham to a total of 187-1 from their 18overs. Despite some below-par fielding from Uppingham they were always well on top & despite J Watchorn hitting a quick 42, Sproxton never looked like reaching the required total & finished on 104-4 t reach their second consecutive Plate final. They face a tough game against division 1 leaders Queniborough in the final on 24th July. |
