New Ground Diary

As most of you will know by now the club is looking towards the future & hoping to buy & develop a new ground of our own. At present our club is on Uppingham School property & although we still have a very good relationship with the school & have had over the many years that we have been tenants, the fact remains that we could be asked to leave at very short notice & as the school continues to prosper & grow we feel that this is increasingly likely.

The club buildings are now starting to get well past their best would cost us a lot of money to update (the work needed to repair the changing rooms a couple of seasons ago cost over 5k) & the school won't allow us to have a permanent (brick built) building so we are limited to wooden, portakabin type structure. Although this is going to cost an awful lot of money we feel that it is almost a case of now or never.  Due to the amount of games that we are playing in a season & that we are trying to further develop our junior & youth cricket sides we are looking to have ground that would have two playing areas with a 12 wicket square & an 8 wicket square.

The first problem with a project such as this is to find a piece of ground that is suitable for a cricket ground (ie flatish) that is not too far out of the town. Although there are landowners that regard us as a much needed part of the local community & would be willing to actually give us a piece of land for the new ground,  none of those own any land that is suitable for a cricket ground. We have now found some land that would be ideal ( to the south of Leicester Road in Uppingham opposite Shepherds Way )& that the owner is willing to sell, albeit for quite a considerable sum of money, & are in the process of signing an agreement to buy with the owner so that if we can raise the money, the land is ours!

That would mean we would have a field. No square, no outfield, no pavilion/changing rooms, just a field !

On 13th December planners at Rutland County Council backed our request to turn the agricultural land into two pitches & the  plans received unanimous support.

Charlie Scott & Dick Reeve have already done an amazing amount of work on the clubs development plan & our future plans have been well received by the Leicestershire cricket board & the ECB who both support our plans & who hopefully will both make funds available once we have secured the purchase of the ground.

More updates soon.

The futures bright. The futures UTCC !
